BASC was created in 1908 by Stanley Duncan with the specific goals of acting as a representative body for sports shooting, promoting and safeguarding the sport. In recent times, it has expanded its work on conservation and scientific research projects.
"BASC liaise with members over issues affecting them!"
This can be about license applications and renewals, about new legislation and how members can stay compliant and work with regional police forces to ensure applications proceed quickly and efficiently.
On the conservation side, BASC liaises with landowners on species management as well as improvements to the landscape and environment that can benefit humans and animals alike. BASC have strong links with conservation organisations and with the UK government to help all interested parties to achieve their common aims.
BASC members have set up the Wildlife Habitat Trust to fund purchase, protection and improvement of habitats and have funded projects to the value of £1m so far! In addition, many BASC members regularly show working dogs at premier events like Crufts!
In the UK, BASC members spend up to £2.5 billion each year on goods and services and the industry supports over 74,000 jobs. 2 million hectares of UK rural land is under management and members spend the equivalent of 3.9 million days a year on conservation.
Rugged & Tough have been members of The British Association For Shooting & Conservation for a number of years. Yes, our fellow members are the people most likely to purchase our high-quality range of countrywear clothing, but it's our own love of the great outdoors that means it makes sense to be members of this leading organisation.
So if you want to join BASC, their website, at basc.org.uk, is full of information on approved training courses, events, insurance options, merchandise, a trade directory (including Rugged & Tough of course) and news about issues you may be interested in.
BASC membership starts from just £76 a year and you get a whole range of benefits. Discounts are available for senior citizens and juniors.
And, of course, if you join, you're going to need some rugged and tough clothing to go to events in, so visit our countrywear website, call us on 01525 211488 or visit us instore, just south of the Hockliffe lights on the A5 just outside Leighton Buzzard.
Until next time ...
